Is America Still Beautiful? (Part 7)
Proverbs 14:34 – “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Jim Black, in his book When Nations Die, gives us ten warning signs of a culture in crisis: (1) The Crisis of Lawlessness, (2) Loss of Economic Discipline, (3) Rising Bureaucracy, (4) The Decline of Education, (5) Weakening of Cultural Foundations, (6) Loss of Respect for Tradition, (7) Increase in Materialism, (8) The Rise in Immorality, (9) Decay of Religious Belief, and (10) Devaluing of Human Life. This is America today. We are on the brink of self-destruction. Almighty God is speaking to us. The bombings in Oklahoma City (1995) and at the Boston Marathon and others, the many school and church shootings, and the tragedy of 9/11, the many hurricanes, etc. Will we listen to God’s voice and repent? What about you? You are a citizen of the USA. Are you in fellowship with Almighty God? On March 23, 1775, this nation was about to be born as she fought for independence from England. Patrick Henry spoke these words to the Virginia House of Burgesses: “There is no longer room for hope. If we wish to be free, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us! They tell me that we are weak, but shall we gather strength by irresolution? We are not weak. Three million people, armed in the holy cause of liberty and in such a country, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. We shall not fight alone. God presides over the destinies of nations, and will raise up friends for us. The battle is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave…Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.” Is America Still Beautiful? She is when she repents! Prov. 14:34 – “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Reproach means a shame, a disgrace. 2 Peter 3:9 states: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
You are America! You have a choice. You are a free, moral agent because God has created you this way. You can choose to follow Jesus or to follow your heart.
