For many years I have prayed Psalm 112 over my family. Verse 2 states: “His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.” On the afternoon of April 24,1992 my Lord called me to give the rest of my life to Him to do the work of the New Testament evangelist. Our daughter, Katy, had not yet been born. This past Friday and Saturday I personally witnessed Katy’s husband, Graham Avis, lead out in an evangelistic event in Evansville, IN called Send Relief Serve Tour Evansville, sponsored by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Graham has one more year in seminary as he prepares to be a pastor. As I watched him, I thought of all of the prayers that I have prayed for our children, Katy and Collin, and all of the thirty-three years of sacrifices and hardships that Kim and I have endured for the sake of the gospel in order to keep lost people out of an eternal literal burning HELL! My great grandfather, Arthur Harvel, was a Baptist deacon over 100 years ago. My grandfather, Howard Harvel, was a Baptist pastor over 80 years ago. My father, CH Harvel, just celebrated his 92nd birthday and he has been a Baptist deacon for the past 38 years. I just sat there and cried tears of rejoicing while knowing that the Word of God is still TRUE (Deut. 7:9-11)! Our two beautiful grandchildren will be raised to love and serve their Lord, and our great God already knows how He will use them and their descendants to win spiritually lost people to Him! Praise His Holy Name!
The Send Relief Serve Tour Evansville led real servants of the Lord Jesus from 65 churches from 14 states. More than 750 volunteers carried out 41 total projects serving schools, community locations and organizations, assisting churches, and sharing the gospel through block parties and mobile grill walks. One of the churches that hosted a block party saw close to 50 people visit their Sunday morning service the following Sunday! I was so blessed to serve with a team from the Cincinnati, Ohio area in door to door witnessing in an apartment complex! One of the teenage girls loved my EvangeCube so much that she used it to witness! We were blessed by being able to use a new method of evangelism called “The Grill Walk.” A gas grill is attached to the back of a pick-up truck and the cook prepares hamburgers to give to the residents of the apartment complex! The truck slowly and methodically makes its way through the neighborhood as we knock on the doors and say: “Would you like to have a hamburger?” Talk about a positive response! WOW! Normally, you will get doors slammed in your face in going door to door in an apartment complex, but we were offering free food! Not one slammed door in our face! HA! We were blessed to lead a 45-year-old lady to faith in the Lord Jesus! Over 30 people gave their heart to the Lord throughout the city of Evansville!
Our television broadcast, A Date with Destiny, began airing on the Christian Television Network station WTNB in Chattanooga, TN on Friday night April 4! This an area of over 1,000,000 people! My Lord spoke to my heart: “Thirty people were Born Again over the weekend through all of the venues that air the TV broadcast including MUS Fiber and Charter in Morristown and the Christian Television Network station WVLR in the Knoxville area.” I could hear the angels of Heaven singing the great hymn of the faith Victory in Jesus!
A precious Spirit-filled lady who has been an integral part of this work for the past twenty years recently led a young man to faith in the Lord Jesus at her house using the How to Be Born Again flyer! A faithful layman in Sylvania, Georgia recently ordered 100 of the How to Be Born Again flyers. Another Spirit-filled lady who has been an integral part of this work for over twenty-nine years recently told me that she still remembers messages that I preached the first time that she heard me proclaim the gospel! The Word of God never returns void (Isaiah 55:11)! On Monday, April 28, I delivered twenty-five new Bibles to the senior football players and trainers of Morristown West High School. This is the eleventh year that we have presented these new Bibles with a note from me and our son, Collin, along with the How to Be Born Again flyer and the plan of salvation highlighted! Collin and I lettered as football players at West High School!
One of the key leaders at the Jefferson County Jail called me this morning to let me know that they will be getting me back in there next month! Thank you for praying that this door would reopen! A Spirit-filled pastor who has been shepherding the Lord’s people for over twenty-four years recently said to me: “You are a modern-day John the Baptist, the Voice of One crying in the wilderness. You, my brother, are shining the light of the gospel in a very dark world.”
A man who met me over twenty years ago recently penned these very powerful words in a letter to me: “I watched your sermon on April 4th at 9:30 on the Tazewell station. It was great and meant for me. You had me making notes as you went along. It was a sermon on sin… Where Sin Finds You, Blinds You, Binds You, and Grinds You. It was great stuff!”
On Thursday, April 17, my Lord said to His passionate soul winner: “You are seeing at least ten people saved every week.” With all of my heart, thank you for praying and for sharing in this mighty work of Almighty God! I pray that untold billions will one day thank you in Heaven for standing with me as I labor in the Harvest Fields in these very evil Last Days! I love you!
